Ever have a day where you start off behind and spend the rest of the day playing catch up?

Waking up tired was bad enough - I'd been having strange dreams all night, and half-waking for most of the night. And no, I'm saying what they were about - I don't write smut, remember? ;) But as I was pumping up my tyres on my touring bike (poor Cecil has been neglected lately), I managed to separate the valve from the tube. Instant flat. :( My mountain bike had also picked up a puncture - I ran over a bindi (thorn) yesterday, taking that short cut through the grass - so that wasn't an option, even if I wasn't going to do the grocery shopping I didn't do on the weekend. Thank goodness for Bicycle Repair Man. I had a spare tube, and I can fix flats, but it takes me forever. He had it changed in two minutes, so I wasn't that late for work.

I knew today was going to be a long day - fifty criminal matters on the list, and Mr Hardy on the bench. He's a lovely bloke, but like that other lovely magistrate, Mr O'Day, he's slow. And to top things off, the computers were down in court, which meant I was looking at manual forms. Ugh. It astounds me how often Courtlink goes down - I swear the computer age just hasn't gotten a hold in the Department of Justice. Half the magistrates are computer-phobic, and when I'm the resident computer expert, that's just plain scary.

Still, a bit of luck - the computers came back online just as Mr Hardy was making his first decision. And then the slog began. We sat from 10am to 1.15pm without a break, clearing about half the list. Then 2pm to 5.30pm for the rest. We - the magistrate, the prosecuter, and I - were all looking pretty worn out by the end. And I still had to ride home with about ten kilos of groceries on my bike. Tomorrow's looking similar - we have a civil contest as well, ick - but there's nothing for it but to put up with it. At least Mr Hardy asks me before sitting through lunch. ;)

A couple of neato things - there's a new Neil Finn album out One Nil that's the feature album on Triple J at work. (I have a cool workplace; my workmates play the 'alternative' radio station!). I'm planning to head over to Albury (where the CD shop is) on the weekend and part with some hard earned. ;) *waves to Hutch* Unfortunately I don't have a CD burner, Hutchly.

The other is finding BRM has a copy of "Good Omens" in the stuff he brought up from Gisborne, where his parents live. It's a fave book of mine and I've been looking for a copy, since it's been ages since I read it. Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett inone book - who could ask for more? ;)

I have to drop around mum and dad's sometime this week and sort out window locks. The woman across fromus got broken into twice over the weekend, so I'm feeling a bit less cocky than usual. There's a heroin shortage at the moment - most of the burglaries up here are alcohol/drug related - and the local addicts are getting desperate for money. I've used my spare escrima sticks to prop in the sliding windows at the back of the house, since we're both out all day at the moment. Although the karate trophies on the window sill near my desk would be off-putting to a would-be burglar! *chuckles*

Tim to go check out the HOSD board, if the damn thing loads. My server was giving me gyp last night, so I had to get Raph to post for me. :(
