Tales From The Winter Court...
Jun. 20th, 2001 06:53 pm*giggles* The title's for Ashlan - she'll know why. :)
Another week of court sittings over, just another half day left of my working week. How is it that time won't move when you want it to, but sneaks past when you're not looking? Five more weeks until I fly out for Dexcon. :)
Cold and foggy today - I actually had to use my lights riding home, and it was only four thirty-ish! And I was cold this morning, without my usual scalding-hot shower to wake me up and get the blood flowing. I stopped at Mum and Dad's and had one there, but it was hard leaving my nice warm bed this morning with that prospect. But, the plumber did come, and the hot water heater is fixed... and I got some new bubble bath today! ;) No guesses for what i'm going to be doing later on.
Work was... worky. The civil contest settled (for which I am profoundly grateful - there is nothing that makes you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers than sitting in court listening to people argue about money. Feh), and the intervention order contest (not the Donehues again!) was adjourned so the defence coul dbuild their case. Somehow I doubt Mr Donehue will get the order he wants - "Tit for Tat" isn't exactly a legal principle. He's basing his application on an assault that took place in Novemeber last year, for pity's sake. And a couple of phone calls in May from his ex-wife's sister. Bah. Good thing I'm not the magistrate or I'd be telling them to go and get on with their lives, instead of wasting time and money on stupidity.
We also had a visit from David Smith, the registrar in charge of the region. Apparently it was Performance Appraisal time. Forgive me if I don't get excited, but being recommended for another bonus I won't get because the funding isn't there just doesn't excite me the way it did the last two times. He does want me to put in writing my desire/need for a full-time position next year - I told him flat-out that if I wasn't made full-time when the new Court opens next year, I'm looking for a transfer. He wants me to put that in writing, so he has something for Pat Armstrong, the CEO who keeps telling us it's the Government's fault there's no money for staff or wages, but tells us no-one would care if we went on strike. *shakes head* Tell me why I do this job again? Oh, that's right, I actually enjoy the job. It's the politics I can't stand.
*chuckles* Wonder what that reminds me of?
Winter is definitely here, 'though. With a vengence. Either that or I've become soft living in Melbourne, where the courts have decent central heating. Ours is funny - it takes three days to get the building warm after being turned off during the weekend, so Mondays are freezing (note to self - bring a cardigan to work on Mondays) and Thursdays are lovely and toasty. ;) I have to admit, it's days like today that the cycling thing wears thin. One of the police was joking with me about riding as I left - he asked me when I'd lost my licence. *grins* Very amusing. As a matter of face, I only got my licence four years ago - and I've driven less than fifty times since getting off my probationary licence. Sure I'll drive - when someone gives me a car. ;) Or I start earning enough money to buy one.
Kielle was talking about tattoos in her journal, which reminded me of a couple of conversations I've had recently about them. I want one - a little green lizard on the back of my shoulder. Maybe that will be my Christmas prezzie to myself this year. ;) But first I need one I like, and I can't draw for crap. ;)
Yay, food! *departs in great haste*
