Sleeeeepy...
Aug. 31st, 2001 11:23 pmWhich begs the question of course, what the hell are you doing online? Ah, life's mysteries, you've gotta love 'em.
I was rather naughty today and spent the majority of my day (which didn't start until 11am, asI was up late last night, and was woken several times by my housemate, who seems to think I'm his personal lost-item tracking device. Like I wanted the mutant finding power, jeez.) in chat. I can't say I'm sorry, tho' - it meant I was able to catch up with a lot of folks I hadn't spoken to for a bit, and just plain enjoy myself. :) Of course, I'll have to go run my errands tomorrow, but as Dad left this morning for one of his walkabouts (or driveabouts, in his case, as he took the car), his Father's Day prezzie isn't that urgent any more.
Looks like I'll be making a couple of trips to Melbourne next week. Work called today, to let me know that I have an interview for the Diversion Co-ordinator position I applied for on Wednesday. You know, the one I didn't really want, since my Grand Plan calls for me to be in Melbourne next year, not any of the country courts the positions are offered for. Bugger. Now I have to try and give a good interview (so I don't muck up future interviews) but without being good enough to be offered the job. Double bugger. And the worst thing is, I feel bad about complaining, because there are lots of people I know that are desperate for any kind of work. Believe me, if I could, I'd offer them the silly position. But as it turns out, the interview is in Melbourne, so I'll be heading down there Monday afternoon, staying overnight and then coming back on Tuesday evening. Means I'll miss a court day too, not something I like doing - it makes things hard on Paula and Pete, especially considering I only just got back. At least I'll get travel allowance for this.
The next Melbourne trip will be much more welcome. I'm going down on the weekend to see Princess Mononoke with Yasmin and Andraste, at the Astor Theatre. Much coolness. The Astor is an old renovated theatre a little out of the city centre, and it has the best choc-top ice creams in Melbourne. ;) It also has a nifty double feature practice - two films for $10 or $11, as I recall. The last double I saw there was Dark City and The Matrix - certainly a double to make your head spin and get you doubting your own reality. ;) It also has Saturday matinees, which is what we're going to - it means Andraste can make the slog back home while public transport is still operating. I'm very much looking forward to it.
Made some progress on some of the outstanding stuff today and this evening, too. Betaed something for Jesse, answered some emails from the backlog of Dexcon (and beyond!), even searched for and found the address adn phone number of an old friend I've known since high school. We lost touch during university, when he got married and started reproducing, but a sheer coincidence helped me track him down back in his old home town of Manangatang *grins* (there's another amusing name for you, Matt and Dex). Now I just have to get around to calling and/or writing to him. I think a letter - it's how we used to communicate, after all, and the White Pages didn't list an email address. And I suck badly at phone calls. ;)
I also did some more of one of my original stories tonight, too. It's taking shape, after several months' haitus. And I've had some ideas regarding the bigger project. I have no idea where to try sending this stuff once I'm done - it's neither true alternative fiction, nor regular stuff - but I thought maybe my old karate compatriot Sean McMullen might be able to give me an opinion. He's a published sci-fi author - he's got quite a few books out - and he might be able to direct me to an appropriate venue. Or tell me to bin it. Either way, I'll get an idea. ;)
*yawns again, mightily* Off to bed for me, I think. And I will be going down to the shops tomorrow - maybe not to Albury, but at least Wodonga Plaza - to do a couple of things and get the blood circulating. Night, all. Take care.
