deathpixie: (road)
There were two items in my mailbox when I got home last night (finally - I spent Tuesday night in Mel's hotel room, since it was easier than going back home at 2.30am).

The first was a postcard from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], which I've brought into work to put up in my cubcile because it's so nice, and I think I could do with reading what she wrote every so often.

The second was a letter from the Tax Department, which I'd been expecting since I finally got my tax return in a couple of weeks ago. This was opened with some trepidation, because I was worried they'd be asking me for more money.

Boy, was I wrong.

*insert dramatic pause*

Inside was a cheque. For $2257.80

That break I was asking for finally came my way.

So what does this mean? It means I finally pay off Walkabout, which has been earning interest on my credit card for the past twelve months. It means I can actually put aside some money in a savings account with ING, who give me interest on my savings and still let me actually have access to the money when I need it. It means that weekend job is now no longer a neccessity, but a choice. It means going to bed and not doing frenzied calculations to figure out whether I can do various things.

It means I'm going to Toronto for New Year's.

Apologies if this seems like rubbing people's noses in it. I know a lot of you out there are doing it tough financially. But this kind of thing never happens to me. It's like winning the lottery. So forgive me if I'm a little excited about it.

*breathes a huge sigh of relief* This couldn't have come at a better time, believe me.
