Work has been so kicking my arse the last couple weeks. In that good, 'keeping busy, learning lots of things' sort of way, but it also means coming home so tired I barely know my own name. Especially doing afternoon shift this week to fill in for a missing person - 1pm - 10:30 pm. Which means I got to do the after hours stuff and get the trainer in to make sure I knew what I was doing, but also meant I was getting home after 11pm both nights. And because I've been at work, I'm too wired to sleep, which means sitting up checking email and the like until midnight or past. Today that half-killed me - had to start work at 8:45am after getting caught last night until 11pm at work, getting home at 11:30 and then not sleeping until 12:45.

Thank goodness I only live a short bike ride away from work.

What I've learned this week:

1) The first two days after a long weekend will be insane. The pathologists come back on, everyone wants releases, and you're getting residual crazy people.

2) Decomps (abbreviation for exactly what you think that is) stink. And the smell lingers in your nose. And people go green if they die and aren't found for a week or two. Thank you so much to the irrational family member whose insistance on viewing her brother meant I had to go check on him personally. Gah.

3) One of the two government undertakers still hates me. To the point she'll answer the phone all friendly when I call, I tell her who it is and her voice just goes flat. She won't even look at me when she comes in, just thrusts the paperwork over the counter in my general direction. Bitch.

4) Homicides aren't as complicated as I thought they were, and while I appreciate the practice, eight in two weeks is getting silly. Can people stop murdering each other, please?

5) I've nailed hospital death reports. Go me.

6) Afterhours like to hit you with sneak attack busy periods. The beeper won't ring until you're on the phone in the middle of taking a death report. :P

7) I still don't like working with one particular team, but they're thawing slightly as I make less mistakes. They stil greet me with what I've done wrong, tho'.

In other non-work news... hmm, not much there. Coochie was fantastic, although I've been in the post-people slump this last couple of weeks. Trying to detox generally too, although that's hard with the broke until payday yesterday. I had lunch with the parentals, which was good, and with the brother and his new girlfriend, a very nice Hungarian girl he met online. I'm going home the weekend before my birthday (next weekend) and Mum's present to me is getting my hair done at the place she goes to. Might get some streaks, depending on what condition it's in after cutting. Have to decide on a colour. Hmm.

Still waiting on news from Canadian immigration, but that's to be expected. May-June is the rough due date.

Watched the Serenity trailer. Want time machine now. Oh, and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]? Moby's playing the Palace in July. :)
