deathpixie: (defying gravity)
I think I've successfully proved I am no longer under the Rice Curse. Which is what, I hear no-one ask but I'm going to explain anyway? Well, it's basically the total inability to cook rice, except possibly with a rice cooker (which I don't own). For many, many years, rice I cooked was usually on the gluggy side, with occasional forays into burnt onto the bottom of the saucepan. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to come out right - I usually ended up asking BRM to do it, which no doubt inflated his manly pride and confirmed to him I was hopeless. ;P

But, it's gone now. Living on my own means I have no-one to whimper at and cook my rice, and dammit, I like the stuff. And today I proved it conclusively by making risotto from a recipe swiped from The Age's weekend magazine quite a few years ago now. Yummy risotto, with pumpkin and pine nuts stirred in and which will be feeding my partner and I tonight. Which is also why I'm cooking dinner at 10 in the morning - I have work starting at 1pm, and I promised my co-worker I would bring food, since she brought in chocolate crossiants last week for breakfast when we were on mornings.

I just hope she likes it. I do, but I'm also the weirdo vegetarian who likes brussel sprouts. ;)

And since there's been a couple of people who have asked:

How to immigrate to Canada. This is the website I've been using for everything. It even has a handy test to do to see if you qualify for skilled worker status (and hey, if I did, most of you IT types will).

*hmms* I need new icons. These are getting rather old, although there's some I still love, dammit.
