Okay, I'm actually working as well, but what I'm doing is incredibly mind-numbing and I have to take periodic sanity breaks online. The only problem is my Friends list is populated by people who are a) not at home due to Dexcon being on this weekend; b) on the other side of the planet and so are asleep at what I'm guessing is some late hour; c) also at work and being far more conscientious than I; or d) not terribly prolific. All which adds up to me sitting here entertaining myself by going to the "recent posts" stats and reading through the posts that look interesting.

There are some very strange people out there in LJ-land.

In the absence of other people talking about themselves, let me babble about myself:

* my brother's laser surgery went well, and I'll have to call home tonight to find out how he's doing. Whilst it was being done (on Tuesday) Dad and I got a whole bunch done, and I found a New Favourite Beer at the Portland Hotel.

* I'm back on the job-searching horse - I put in another application today. I'm not going to say anything else, because yes, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], I admit it, I'm superstitious, at least when it relates to job applications, and I don't want to jinx myself by getting all excited about it. Besides, I really don't think I have much chance of getting it, but you have to be in it to win it, neh?

* winter has finally caught us up - the last week has been wet, windy, and COLD. And I'm definitely moving to a place with heating when my lease expires in January.

* as a result of the foul weather, I've been catching the tram in. Bad me - I must take Cecil out for a ride on the weekend. If the weather is still horrible cycling-wise, I'll go to the pool and do laps instead. I'm getting terribly stiff from the lack of movement.

* I'm gradually getting interested in Farscape, thanks to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s DVDs. I'm saving Babylon 5 for a marathon session.

* So far I have no plans for the weekend. This is a refreshing change, especially considering I've been spending overmuch and am waiting on payday next week. I'll probably be climbing the walls by Sunday, tho'. *grins*

* Both my meetings were cancelled today, which means I've been able to get a bunch of stuff done. Go me!

* Leftover Vegetable Soup is of the strong. Not only am I stuffed after having said soup for lunch, but my fridge is now empty of suspicious vegetables.

* I need to start another mini-meme. Something to get people commenting in my LJ so I get email on my work account and am not so obviously not working as I am when I'm on LJ.

*Processing withdrawal notices is really, really boring. But it beats answering the phones for the instalment plan section.

Having decided to leave my rather depressing current career, and take up a job as a tester in a toy factory somewhere, I wonder if you too would contemplate a career change? A tour-guide and pub-crawl leader in London (calling yourself Do Not Pass Go Enterprises), perhaps?

Or we should just take over New Zealand.

(only miiiiildly strange today)

Sure. Come on over. We've already taken over the Gold Coast.

I'm also currently looking for a job. There's not much out there. Plenty if you happen to be in the financial or IT sectors though. So much for the so-called Knowledge Economy. Lots of conferences and such, but little real action. Still, will keep looking. I'll probably have to settle for a job rather than a career in the meantime.

Heh. Mel, your idea of getting a job as a tester in a toy factory puts me in mind of the movie Big. Er. Except then the idea of a guy saying to the `Make A Wish' machine, "I want to be big' makes me think that that movie is just asking for an R-rated parody.

Um...

I blame Yasmin! She corrupted me! ;)

Did you get any of the emails I left you at home? I'm curious.
