A bit of poetic justice today - Pauline Hanson, former leader of One Nation, the party that made racism "acceptable" in politics, has been jailed for three years for fraud leading out of the creation of One Nation. Last night was her first spent in jail - it's probably not very charitable of me, but it does give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Now if only we can get rid of The Gnome...

Sidenote: Those paying attention to my "Current Music" will note I finally remembered to bring some more CDs in. Phil's Classic Chill CD is very nifty, but after the sixth playing in one day, a change is good...

mm. do you think the sentence was just? i know that for all that she's done, she ultimatly deserves, but in regards to the charge, i think it was a little harsh.

One Nation set the example for a lot of those small "DIY" parties - it's important that a deterrent be set against taking short cuts, especially illegal ones like those taken by the Fish and Chip Bitch from Ipswich. So no, I don't think the sentence was too harsh. Federal offences generally carry heavier sentences as well. I work in the Magistrates' Court, and the few taxation cases we got always had far heftier sentences than similar "obtain property by deception" cases.
