Easy - just get stuck in court for the entire day (and I mean the entire day - I got back to PERIN at 5pm, which was when I was due to leave), with not enough water, not enough tissues and way too much work. I felt like death warmed over by the end.
However, if I had to use the Benway Scale of Illness, it would probably be a 7. Not enough to stop me from coming to work, but enough to make me miserable and incommunicative. Hell, I didn't even turn the computer on last night, just watched Angel videos, talked to my Mum when she rang, and had a bowl of 2 minute noodles (that would be instant ramen to the US folks) for dinner. And slept really, really badly - if I was suffocating from the blocked nose, I was coughing myself awake. Not to mention being woken early by the joyful arrival of my period, unprepared-for. Nothing will get me out of bed faster than the knowledge I'm about to have serious staning issues and a lot of laundry to do if I don't.
And now I've thoroughly squicked those of you who believe women secrete that pretty blue fluid from the tampon/sanitary pad advertisements when they're menstruating, I'll go onto nicer topics. *grins*
Angel is cool. I didn't really get into it the first time because of a certain hokey-ness to the writing (and whilst I love Doyle, and the episode where he died was really traumatic for Doyle fans, the dialogue was seriously cliched. Honestly, it was like writing angst scenes by numbers), but on the second viewing, it's growing on me. Not to mention the appearance of Wesley in the leather pants. *grins* And Joss is as evil to his characters as any fanficcer could be.
My estate agent is inspecting my place today, making sure I haven't trashed it. Luckily for me they are, since it's given me the chance to officially notify them of my intention to leave at the end of the lease, and to tell them about the hot water again. Things were a little messy, but not dirty, if you get the difference. Stuff piled up on various surfaces, brekkie dishes in the sink (I was too brain dead to wash them, and besides, it's just a plate, a cup and a glass), ironing in the basket in the corner, but nothing that would get me into trouble. And since I won't be there to supervise (I only got two days' warning, and I'm not using my holiday leave on something like this), I've stashed the laptop (my most obviously expensive possession) somewhere safe for the duration.
Reading: Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment, which has the usual Pratchett effect of making me want to keep on reading until the end. Not so good on a tram when you have to get off at the right stop to go to work. It has me impatient for the end of the day and the tram ride home (I'm giving myself a couple of days' break whilst I'm hacking up goo - bad timing, with the Port to Port next week, but what can you do?).
Writing: Not terribly much, but I've been scribbling down scenes for the Oz-after-he-left-Willow story I had the idea for whilst travelling (it incorporates someone we met along the way). I'm also trying to get that Books of Magic/Powers crossover done for [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s birthday, but it's not looking good.
To do: Get the final list of names for Auscon. There are a couple of the Melbourne Maelstrom who have neglected to notify me of their intention to come (looks at [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], and I was sure there were a couple of others, like [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] who expressed interest. Since I can't book anything until I have numbers, I think I'll have to come the heavy and give folks a deadline of by next Monday. Even a comment in here would do, although I do need arrival/departure times for anyone coming from outside Melbourne.
I'm also planning to scope out hostels on the weekend, and to try and get one ride in at least. I have next Tuesday off (thanks be to Melbourne, who proclaims a public holiday for a horse race!), so that will be my maintenance time (full chain clean, pump up the tyres, remove heavy bits) and hopefully I'll be able to take it for another run in the afternoon, weather permitting. It's been shocking cycling weather lately, with lots of rain and wind - possibly one of the reasons why I'm sick this week - but Melbourne owes me, dammit, for getting me wet every day last week, just about.
Breaking News: I'm moving out of appeals and back to revocations in two weeks. I also missed out on the position I interviewed for last week, but I did do better this time. And hey, I'm used to missing out by now - it's happened enough this year.
Prepare for a very bored Rossi. ;)
