All wrapped up
Dec. 23rd, 2003 12:16 pmOkay, life back under control again after a morning's insanity.
See, at 5.00 yesterday afternoon, just as I was in the process of turning off my computer and collecting my bits and pieces to go home, my phone rang. Now I'd been expecting a call from the estate agent all day, and getting antsy as a result of it. So when the phone rang, I knew exactly who it was.
The estate agent.
With an offer for the place I fell in love with over the weekend.
Two problems: one, they want me to take out a twelve-month lease, and two, they want the bond and the lease signed before Christmas, otherwise I'd lose the place. And since the next day (being today) I was going home to Wodonga, I had to think fast. I managed to grab Steve, my supervisor, as he was on his way out the door and ask if it was okay for me to be extremely late (around 10am) to work the next day. Then I went home and called Phil, because owing to Christmas and the fact I have one more month's rent due on the place I'm in, I didn't have the spare cash to actually pay the bond. Plans were laid and I busied myself with packing, wrapping presents, and making stirfy in an effort to clean the fridge of potential sliminess.
Then this morning I got up at six-thirty, grabbed all the stuff I'm taking to Wodonga (backpack and a Bag O' Gifts) and headed down to Phil's place, pausing briefly to drop stuff off at work. Thank goodness for flexi-time working admin staff. Having secured the rest of my bond I then took myself to the estate agent, signed my life away, gave them the bond money, and then schlepped it back to work, getting in at exactly 10am, like I'd said. *grins*
The upshot of all this is my stomach is aching from the sudden stress, my pulse is finally dropping back to something resembling normal, and I HAVE SOMEWHERE REALLY COOL TO LIVE!!!
*ahems*
Sorry about that - it was hard to get excited whilst I was running around frantically organising things.
And hey, this means I can really relax in Canada, since I won't be having housing issues. Although I do have to pay the first month's rent and collect the keys on the day I get back, being the 10th. Which won't be a huge issue except for the $500 per day withdrawal limit on my keycard which may or may not cause problems. I'll work it out eventually, I always do.

BTW, I worked out why my phone posts sound so stilted - I feel like I'm leaving a damn answering machine message. :P
