Pro cyclists bounce
Jun. 3rd, 2004 10:56 amSome days you wonder why you get out of bed at all. *wry grin*
I got collected by a 4WD/SUV today on my way to work. One minute I'm merrily pedalling down Barkly Street and joining with the Nepean Highway, the next there's a silver flash in my vision and something hard and unyielding and car-like contacting with my shoulder and front wheel and the next thing I know there's the road getting intimate with my left side.
Nothing broken. *points to subject header* I've got a rather spectacular graze on my left elbow, another on my hip bone with also has a rather impressive bruise, and more bruising on my left thigh. And a rather annoying blood blister on my right thumb, right where I hit the space bar. :P The bike looks okay, although I need to give it a once-over once I get it back. The driver not only stopped, he took me to the Emergency Ward of the Alfred Hospital to get checked over, and took care of the bike for me since I was kind of spaced at the time. Shock is so much fun.
So, I'm going to malinger on the couch today, since it's easier than staggering around saying "ouch" every time I move the wrong part, and I'll be back at work tomorrow. All I can say is, thank god for ten years of martial arts training, because I couldn't have hit the road any more safely than I did.
And to reiterate, mostly for my mum who is having kittens after I called her to tell her, I'M OKAY. Really.

Date: 2004-06-02 07:10 pm (UTC)Eek!
Date: 2004-06-02 07:10 pm (UTC)Keep in mind you can take both Tylenol (acetometiphine?) and Advil (ibuprofen) simultaneously, as they work on two different parts of the body. So the Advil will take care of swelling and inflammation and the Tylenol will get rid of the nerve pain. Promise this is safe - they do it in ERs in the US regularly.

From:What the heck was the driver doing?
Date: 2004-06-02 07:17 pm (UTC)This is a genuine query - now that I'm off racing around in traffic (and Hobart drivers SUCK), I like to know what I should be looking out for. Because I probably won't bounce yet *g*. Though the years of horse-riding and falling off spectacularly into hard objects like fences and the road may help with that.
But, naturally, delighted to hear that you came out of it with a lot less problems than could have happened. Take care of yourself, dudette.

AUNTY LEA HAD KITTENS TOO
Date: 2004-06-02 11:50 pm (UTC)Shocked, I read your post today whilst doing my WVU homework. But relieved now as I read on, you are ok. (sort of, well as ok as you'll ever be, only family really understand that one! he! he!).
Hope you've had a relaxing day and not in too much pain. I have a cold myself at the moment so I'm a bit miserable anyway *sniff* wipes nose on sleeve (no of course, not really!!!).
Anyway, hope your less bruised tommorow.
Aunty Lea.

Date: 2004-06-03 04:41 am (UTC)Malinger away. Get rest! I'm so so so happy that you're ok. Something like that could have been soooooo much worse, and I'm so grateful you're fine.
Have I ever thanked you?
Date: 2004-06-03 05:59 am (UTC)So, on a mostly unrelated note to your post, I was out riding the other day, just for fun and distance. When all of the sudden, the trail disappeared. It took me a good fifteen minutes, but I finally found the huge rut where the trail used to be, and thanks to my nice hybrid tires and frame, I was able to follow it for a little while, and got a mountain bike-esque workout.
Got very dirty, but had a LOT of fun. So, yes, manymany thanks to Ms. Rossi for helping me find the best fun on Earth.

From:Lucky Niece
Date: 2004-06-03 03:05 pm (UTC)Thought you may be showing signs of soreness today. I hope you don't have to go to work or at least they let you go home early.
Your one lucky niece! And I forgot to ask about the bike, but I see the last post has given me the answer anyway, so all's well (I hope).
*gentle hugs* and Luv from Aunty Lea.
