For those wanting to be in on Auscon this year (and subsequent years) or just want to taunt yourselves with our discussions, email (AussieCon-subscribe@yahoogroups.com) to subscribe.
Hey all,
Early for Auscon announcements, I know, but there have been questions
raised already, and I know for money-saving reasons it helps to know
what's what as soon as possible. So, Auscon 2004.
I've spoken to some of the Maelstrom and a couple of others, and the
general consensus seems to be that Brisbane would be the best venue
this year for a couple of reasons. First is, with Amanda down in
Hobart, that leaves only two people in Sydney, so travelling will have
to be done by the majority of people. Secondly, there have been
several new arrivals in Brisbane (or will have by August - rumours are
Falstaff will be joining the Aussie contingent by then, so we'll have
a new Token Foreign Male) all of whom are financially strapped. Mel
will also be returning from Canada in October, and will also be a bit
on the broke side and probably not up for travelling anywhere. So, in
order to get the biggest turnout, Brisbane's looking to be the best bet.
Now, this being a democracy and all (I nearly typed "demoncracy"
*snorts*), I'm opening up the floor for people to discuss this. If
enough people have violent objections to Brisbane and suggest another
venue, I'm happy to go with the group decision. However, if I don't
hear anything by the end of the month, Brisbane it is.
Another bit of info that will be helpful... With the formation of
JetStar, domestic flights have dropped in price, both with Jetstar and
VirginBlue. If we sort this out far enough ahead, people couold take
advantage of the whole price war that's happening at the moment.
Cheers,
Rossi.
