Snow doesn't fall, it floats.
Right now it looks like a snowglobe out there, or perhaps a ticker tape parade where people are throwing down fragments of tissue paper instead. It's all very novel, since the only snow I've seen falling has been in the ski resorts of Australia, where it's more a mixture of sleet and snow, and rather icky to be out in.
If this keeps up, I'll wander up to High Park this afternoon with my camera.

Also, a technical-ish question. I've noticed people using YouSendIt to post links to music downloads in their LJs, and I'm wanting to know how you do that since a) I now have access to broadband and b) I'm not hugely wealthy this Christmas and music is the Christmas gift to all that doesn't cost me. ;) I could just email folks directly with songs, but I was wanting to do "Rossi's 12 songs of the year" or something themic like that.
Help?

Date: 2005-12-07 05:35 pm (UTC)You go to yousendit.com. You upload your song. They give you an address, which has a specific number of downloads or days before it expires. You hand this address out to whomever you please, and reupload when the file runs out, if you so choose.
LE FIN!
(I'm glad you're enjoying the snow. Glee!)

Date: 2005-12-07 05:35 pm (UTC)YouSendIt is easy; go to yousendit.com, and then browse for whatever file you'd like to share and put in your own address for the recipient. Yousendit will e-mail you the file link, which you then post in your livejournal.

Date: 2005-12-07 05:35 pm (UTC)Put your own email addy in the first box.
Use the "Browse" button to find the song on your hard drive.
Skip the rest, go to the end and hit SEND. Wait. And Wait. And be patient. They don't have a reliable progress bar. When the file sends, it will send you an email with a link. Viola! Just give that link to your friends, paste it in an entry in your journal or into an email, and they can go to the link and retrieve the song.
The link will expire after a while. If it does, just repeat the process to get a fresh link to share.
Easy!

Date: 2005-12-07 05:36 pm (UTC)YSI files are available for fixed amount of time (one week) and for a fixed amount of downloads. The latter can be avoided, I believe, by not hotlinking the link -- if you look at my post from yesterday, you'll see that I left out the http:// part that would have made it a hotlink.
To get a file, it's just a matter of going to the generated URL and right-clicking.

Date: 2005-12-07 09:21 pm (UTC)Go to the website and enter in your email address twice, as sender and recipient. Follow the directions for uploading the music and hit the button.
Then little fairies will warp into your hard drive and start picking up the music note by note. They have green fairies for the upper registers and blue ones for the lower registers. A huge troll carries all the drum beats and unicorns pull wagon loads of guitar riffs.
All this happens very quickly, so you're not going to be able to see them at work. I wouldn't suggest trying to look inside for the unicorns and trolls, though. They get rather testy when you interrupt their work.
Then an email fairy goes to your Inbox and tells it that the file's ready to be downloaded and urges you to send the link to your friends.
