Since I'm a sheep and Dex is busy killing things...
Ganked from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], among others. Title from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].
1. How can I tell if you are angry?
Depends on how angry I am. Mildly annoyed I tend to bitch and vent. Actually angry I get all polite and if you're with me in person I get pointy face, according to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. I also slam things a lot. Bloody furious I tend to withdraw as quickly as I can, 'cause I'm liable to punch something. Good news is I don't get that angry very often any more - martial arts are good for the control.
2. How should I behave around you if you are angry?
Depends on the anger and the reason. If I'm annoyed and venting, listening is good. There's a few people (like [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] who are really good at talking me down because they can be reasonable at me without making me feel stupid, which only directs the anger inwards and then it gets messy. 'Tough love' usually doesn't work for this reason - I'll either get angrier at what I'm feeling is bullying, or I'll wind up in the whole self-loathing spiral. If I'm at 'bloody furious', give me space. Don't get in my face, please.
3. How do you want me to behave when you are hurting emotionally? How is it best to comfort you?
If I need to talk, let me talk. Provide tissues. If I need physical contact, I'll usually ask for it, generally in the pathetic little voice 'cause I have a tendency to think I won't get it. Depending on how upset I am, gentle taps with the Hammer of Logic - ie, point out that things aren't as bad as they seem and I need to give myself a break. It's usually one of those. If I'm really upset, I tend to hermit until I'm more able to deal with the world and I'll tell people so.
4. Are there things we should not discuss?
Generally not, although again it depends on the situation and the person. I have little to no interest in reality TV and women's magazines, but I can fake it for work purposes. *wry* I'm good at not pursuing difficult topics with others - if I bring up something you're not comfortable with (like, say, the nitty gritty details of work at the Coroner's Court) for the love of small green apples, tell me. I don't have much I don't discuss, and I forget some people do.
5. How should I treat you if you are physically ill?
Tea, hot vegetarian soup, a box of tissues and juice. Sympathy. I tend to whine a bit when I'm sick, so if it gets on your nerves, just leave me to recover. ;) [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] already has many gold stars in this area from the week of the death cold.
6. What makes you happy, that's in my power to grant as a friend?
Reminders people know I exist. ;) Company, a long chat on the phone, postcards. Email. Drabbles written for me or about my characters, or fan art of the same will get you undying adoration. Surprise music files. Nice surprises in general.
7. How would you like us to recognize your birthday?
By not mentioning how old I actually will be next birthday? *grins* Um, I get a kick out of seeing mentions in people's LJs, or from e-cards and the like. Actual mail is fun too. If you're around me in person, going out and buying me drinks works.
8. Are there any standing categories of presents that would be appropriate or unwelcome?
Appropriate gifts: music (I love mix CDs), books, trade paperbacks, gift vouchers, paid LJ time (since I tend to forget), stories/art just for me.
Inappropriate gifts: Something that shows you have no idea what I like. PWPs, since I'm not really about the pr0n, more the plot.
9. Are there times of the year that are difficult for you?
February. Breakup happened then, and because Valentine's is around there, I tend to get depressed and cranky. I'm getting better and I do try and not bring down my friends in happy relationships.
10. Who are the most important people in your life to whom we should defer when making plans on your behalf?
My family, obviously. *grins* [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], as they know me well enough and are also capable of organising things. ;) There's others, but listing them would take all afternoon. ;)
