I'm bored and incredibly flat and feeling like all I can see is the negative in things today. So, in an effort to pull myself out of that, here's the challenge:

Tell me something positive about your life. Today, yesterday, the past week, something you like about yourself, something you saw, heard, read or watched. Post in the comments here or post in your own journal.

Anyone who says anything along the lines of "I can't think of anything because my life sucks!" will be smited. There's always something, even if it's the fact that today it's sunny in Toronto, clear and crisp and I'm planning to go get a veggie hot dog from the vendor outside my building and sit in the sun and read Neil Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors for a while.

I also finished my outstanding filing.

My mum went to a funeral on Tuesday, for a relative I never knew existed. She asked and I agreed to do the office cleaning job she had for her as there'd be no way she'd make it there and get things done in a timely fashion.

Tuesday came, work was hellish, the rain was bitter and cold and the offices were their usual mess. But when I was done, though it took me hours and I was on my own, night had set in and the skies had cleared. It wasn't cold, and I walked home content that I had done a good deed for my mum.

I looked up at the sky and saw constellations I hadn't seen in forever, because when do people ever look at the sky just to look any more? And when I was mapping the stars to 'draw' Orion's Belt in my mind's eye, a shooting star shot across the dark.

..That left me smiling and feeling rather content for the rest of the night. :)

Cats remain funny, especially my pesty cat boy Souvenir. He always turns up when I go to use the bathroom, pretending he only wants petted. But his REAL evil plan is to bide his time and LEAP to slash the wonderful exciting loopy TOILET PAPER out of my hand when I pull it off the roll.

Makes for a thrilling adventure challenge several times a day!

it's a perfect day out. amazing sky, fresh air. i have a dozen roses just opening and starting to smell fantastic. my dog wants to play 'bunny' with me (i have to try and steal his stuffed toy from him) and is being ridiculous. i have all the windows and the back door open, which is good because i'm ironing out 12m of cotton that will be curtains by tomorrow night and the iron making the room warm. i'm kind of sleepy but i had a decaf coffee with french vanilla ice cream in it and i think i finally figured out what's wrong with the novel B and i officially finished last week. something was nagging at me but i think i got it, so instead of being a passable story, i think it's going to end up nice and tight. and with any luck, i'll get to pick up a nice, new serger machine this weekend. life is pretty good from the right angle.

For the first time in my life I'm doing a job that I enjoy, where my contribution is valued, my professional opinions respected, and the outcome rewarding both financially and personally.

Also, despite of the negatives in my life right now, I am glad that I live in a time where medical science can help nature along, and that I live in a city where these technologies are easily accessable.

i'll even give you three things!

I love how my friend Mikko sometimes randomly calls me from Finland, even if he has nothing that intelligent or of note to tell me, but just because he can.

I love the way the owner of Grillway always greets me nicely and yesterday smiled at me even though he didn't smile at the two customers before me.

I love...hot water with a slice of lime and sugar? because even if my throat is sore and I feel horribly, I actually, genuinely like the taste of that drink and it makes me feel better.

I got my computer working again after reinstalling Windows.

Yes, I'm actually genuinely happy about that.

And in the vein of "it could be worse", I'm also quite happy that my current problems are only limited to Windows crashing, and not something really major. All things considered, I've got a good life.

My living room looks like a bookmobile exploded. I know it may not sound like a good thing, exactly, but it does mean that all of my beloved books are no longer held hostage in brown cardboard prisons.

Also, Henry managed to get himself stuck on top of Mom's kitchen cabinets earlier this afternoon and it was quite funny.

I do not have to work today. And the apartment is slowly getting cleaned. I have done three loads of dishes!

Our cat is still the fluffiest cat EVER.

I have Ten and the BSG cast staring at me from the wall all Intense and Smokin' Hot. (And Jamie Bamber is standing on a box so he's taller than Tahmoh Penikott. *snicker*)

Even though yesterday was Thanksgiving and I totally gorged on turkey and delicious foods like candied yams, stuffing, and cranberry sauce, as well as partaking in three deserts, I only gained 1/2 lb (220 g). And I'm even now going about the business of loosing it again. So I am satisfied. *hugs* Feel better love.

I'm getting over from being quite, quite ill for the last couple of weeks.

Now, the storyline:
... Tuesday-before-last was when the fever, chills, stuffiness, and sinus headache bloomed. That kept me out of work for three days of the previous week. Late Friday said cold migrated into my lungs, and I attempted to cough my lungs out through my nostrils through all of the weekend -- getting zero sleep all weekend, plus pulling a couple of muscles in my neck and shoulders in the process.

This Monday: I had a Dr's appointment at a clinic a short distance from my work -- so I decided that since I wasn't really feverish, I should put in an appearance and try to get some work done -- and boy was THAT a mistake. Several of the staff wondered "what are you doing here?" ... and when the boss notices "are you still sick?" you know you're in trouble. The doctor gave me my expected antibiotics for the cough -- but decided that no, I really didn't need any codiene-enhanced cough medicine (it's prescription-only in California), and I should just boost dosages of my regular asthma treatments to expand my bronchii and relieve the spasms. Since grabbing the doctor by his collar and screaming "GIVE!! ME!!! OPIUM!!!" would have gotten me funny looks, and possibly a discussion with the nurses and hospital rent-a-cops, I took the doctor's orders that I'd been given home with me.

Monday night / Tuesday morning -- despite LOTS of over the counter cough treatments (menthol drops, dextromethorphan syrups, eucalyptus teas, etc. etc. etc.) I once again spent a night coughing lungs out of orifices, and not getting any sleep. I spent that morning out of work again ("hey boss -remember how you said I looked like shit yesterday? Well... I'm worse ... seeya tomorrow maybe"), and on the HMO's advice line, telling the advice line nurse-practitioner that my doctor was as full of shit as a christmas goose. Ok, I was a bit more polite than that. And the nurse reiterated the boost-my-asthma-meds suggestion. However, she also arranged to have a codiene-enhanced cough syrup precription called over to a nearby pharmacy, and pushed through the paperwork for me to add a humidifier to my CPAP machine.

Tuesday night ... I *slept*. No choice in the matter. None whatsoever. Amazing what that first night of uninterrupted sleep will do for your outlook.

So ... three nights of antibio and uuber cough medicine later ... and this cough is slowly retreating into oblivion.

I'm calling that a win.

I have almost-guaranteed work until at least Christmas, whether I get the latest permanent job applied for or not, and my coworkers are really nice.

I'm going out with my friends tomorrow and Clare says she'll buy me shoes and make me a kittyhat.

I get to go to Cardiff for a three-day house party next month and see John Barrowman in panto with my friends.

Batyaaaa is coming to England, only fifty miles from me, so I get to see her next February.

After almost three and a half years of play, I still have new and interesting things to do in X Project.

:D?

I live in the most amazing place. Today, we spent a warm afternoon trimming back our wisteria, and I harvested the last of my herbs for this year. I have a huge basket of sage branches to strip of leaves, and catnip for medicinal tea. I've got that happy-weary feeling going that comes after a few hours of hard work in the fresh air.

I love it when I feel this in tune with the plot of land we are priveledged to caretake. My mind is soothed out, I feel one with the land, and by extrapolation, everyone on the planet.

Or maybe I've just inhaled too much sage. :) Whatever. I'm very happy with my life this very moment.

Which reminds me, as always, that life can take very unexpected turns and long-held dreams can come suddenly true.

Actually, I'm starting to think that I believe in the power of the wish . . . 'Cept I wouldn't be a revenge demon. More like the nookie demon :)

It's warm and sunny, which is wonderful. The candidates for Moonee Valley in today's election aren't ALL complete morons. Ths pleases me a lot. I'm learning to drive and haven't crashed yet, which again, is seriously cool. I can have as much green tea with lemon as I want. *pauses* My housemates are great.

oooh! And I had the cutest kitten in the universe sleep on my face last night. Not so good for actually getting sleep but, he's so cute. Actually, pretty much everything in my life is pretty damn fantastic at the moment.

Coming out of my parents bedroom--watching the downstairs TV--to find my mom laughing and saying "I think he wants some company..." and discovering my dad at the kitchen table, with Trival Pursuit set up with two other seats set up.

I'd say a nice quiet game but there were several times the game was paused due to fits of uncontrollable laughter and cat on the board.

We haven't done that in years, it was so nice.

(Also, I need to update their TP. Any time it asks you a question about the Soviet Union and it's not a history question...)
