Let your voice be heard.

Tonight's news had reports of Muslims and Arabs in Australia being subjected to racist taunts and violence as a result of the attacks yesterday. I listened with a sickened heart to talkback radio responses from 'ordinary Australians' villifying a whole race of people for the alleged actions of a fantatical splinter group that has not yet been proven to be the culprits. I heard people calling for mass deportation, for getting rid of "them".
It made me ashamed of my country.
I've been wondering what I can do - here is something I can do. I can write. I can try and counter some of this mindless hate. We all can.
Start with the newspapers. Write to the letters section, the opinions section, of your local papers. Then, if you're in a capital city, call the radio stations. Especially those in Sydney, where the worst of the talkback hosts are. Let them know we aren't all hate-mongerers. Write to your local MP, the Prime Minister, anyone and everyone you can think of. Send the same letter to as many places as you possibly can.
Don't let this tragedy become an excuse for something terrible.
