... for all you gallbladder experts out there. Am I allowed to take painkillers at all? Any kind? Like, Advil? Because constant feeling of having a stitch aside, my back is killing me right now. I could haul my arse down to the doctor again, but a) I'm not worse, just constantly owie and b) it's cold out there and cold makes me worse. :(

I'm not even thinking about the nausea right now. Because thinking about it makes me want to hurl.

You could probably use ibuprofen, Advil or any pain reliever that is not processed through the liver. Of course, you need to be careful not to take too much or you might give yourself NSAID gastritis on top of this. :P

Trouble is, the pain from gallstones is caused by the fact that the gallbladder is pushing against an obstruted duct. OTC pain relievers may not cut it.

Over the counter painkillers won't cut it, sadly. I was on Demerol shots for a solid month (ER every second night) to keep the pain at bay before they knew what it was.

When they finally diagnosed it and set me up for emergency surgery the following week, I got ulcer medication to slow down trips to the ER. I believe it was a high-strength painkiller + stomach meds...however, they didn't work and I did end up in the ER anyway one night before surgery.

Here is a very valuable phone number to have. I've used them 2 or 3 times since they've opened. They're very helpful.

You beat me to it. They really are useful. :) Sadly, in your case, they may suggest that you go to the ER.

Ken's been known to pop a Vicodin when his is giving him agony. I'm sorry you're hurting. Watching him go through this, I know it can be bad!
