PSA: Swings and roundabouts

So, yesterday I signed my contract. It's for a year, but that's likely to change in the permanent sense before it expires, according to Sharon. The pay's $21.53 an hour, with a performance adjustment in April, plus I don't have to pay my agency any more. Sick days and public holidays are paid, and I accrue vacation credits through attendance - basically, the more often I'm there, the more hours I accrue for leave. Not too sure about the benefits side of things - I'll have to go through things a bit more - but I do get union representation now, and they can't just terminate my contract without warning like they could have when I was temping.
Downside is I'm coming in mid-pay cycle. Which means by the time they set me up and all, it's another two weeks before I get paid. So, after tomorrow's pay (which will be a day short due to me being sick last week), I won't get paid again until October 18. Considering rent and bills are due at the end of the month, I'll have... maybe $50 to my name for two weeks. Probably more likely $20. Of course, I know that once I do get paid I'll have plenty, and that people will help out and I've got my credit card as backup (already having to use it for the pub atm, and for the cats' visit to the vet on Monday), but the whole idea of being that broke for that long is almost enough to bring me out in hives. How I managed in university on $10 a week I have no idea.
So, warning to folks - I'm going to be twitchy. Really twitchy. Try not to mention money, or savings, or expenses and the like directly to me? Or invite me anywhere that involves money? I may dissolve into a ball of guh.
Work today has sucked. Majorly. Demands on demands, including a very fruitless search for a customer service number for Air Canada to sort out a credit card charge (thanks [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]!). I'm cranky already, and people are annoying me. Even lunch is annoying, since the morons who run the cafeteria thought that because we have a major demonstration out the front of the building today and everything's locked down, they didn't need to have much food on. Of course, with the lockdown, I can't just pop out for a hotdog, so pizza and salad it is. Again. :P
At least game stuff is making progress. There's been some great logs done and that always cheers me.

Date: 2007-09-26 09:16 pm (UTC)Just remind yourself of how you feel when you can help someone out. Your friends get the same exact feeling when they can help you out. When I do that I don't feel quite so bad about doing it.
