Woke up this morning to discover that the one coldsore I'd developed Monday now has a friend. Who spawned another coldsore, right next to it. Regular applications of Abreva are happening, but this is indicating a pretty major immune system crash. Which means, joy of joys, I'll be ripe for the first cold/flu of the season. Time to start mainlining zinc again.

*sighs* Stupid coldsores. I hate them so much. They're ugly, they're painful and the creams for them just decimate the rest of the skin on my lips, adding to the whole "want to cover my head with a bag" feeling. And considering I've been feeling less than attractive for two weeks now? Not helping.

And now I have a tape to transcribe, which means trying to decipher Alvin's crappy-arse tape player warp. Grf.

Lipchap -- not a gloss or anything froofroo, just some good lipchap -- your lips and then gently dab the coldsore medication on the sores? The lipchap should help protect your actual mouth a bit, and if you're careful with the meds... Also, as much as vaseline will not actively improve the state of your lips -- it sits on the surface, doesn't "get it" as it were -- it's excellent at protecting against further damage.

I'd also recommend getting some Andrographis paniculata (AP) and vitamin C for your poor immune system.

Want me to come over and do your nails?

*hugs*

I get those fairly bad too. A former co-worker suggested taking a vitamin called Lysine and I also use a topical ointment called Campo Phenique (sp). I'm not sure if it shortens the time I have them, but the Campo really helps with the soreness and the heat.

I used to take garlic and horseradish and vit C tablets, plus lysine, and... I think jbmcdragon said oregano was good for immune system stuff?

Just wondering, but have you tried Carmex? In the yellow pot? I find it's made of awesome, too, and works wonders on skin issues in general. I really need to ask our Medical Officer to refill mine, next time I'm in the capital.
