Sneaking on quickly...
Jul. 22nd, 2008 03:07 pmWork's cracking down on non-work-related Internet use, so there's been a whole lot less of my online lately. Much to my personal woe, since I'm running out of work to do. That should change, however, in the near-ish future.
At the start of the month, we were told that we were having a ministerial reshuffle, with a new ministry - Small Business and Consumer Services - being created to cover Prosecutions, where I work. Not much was going to change - no physical move, thank goodness, since I've just gotten Alvin's office all tidied! - but today I got called into the Deputy Director's office. The conversation when something like this:
DD: So, with the changes, we're going to cut down to three prosecution lawyers - A, J and R - and one assistant.
Me (thinking): Oh shit, here it comes, I'm being let go because I'm on a contract...
DD: And that assistant would be you. Do you think you could handle the workload of three lawyers?
Me: Um, sure! (thinking) Well, if it's not like R uses an assistant much...
DD: Good! We'll have a meeting with all the prosecutors and yourself and myself once A's back from sick leave and sort things out. Oops, there's a call I need to take, bye!
Me: *blinkblink*
So yeah, I'm about to become the single assistant to the Ministry of Small Business and Consumer Services. Vera's going to be shuffled over to the Ministry of Government Services (same building, different work) along with our fourth prosecutor, which will be interesting in terms of his cases. Hopefully he'll be finishing various things off over time rather than dumping them on J and R, since A's still away.
