Beginnings

I'm beginning lots of things this month:
1) 52 Pick Up is my new writing project, which I'm posting on my Dreamwidth journal. It's one story a week, for the whole of 2010. I posted the first one yesterday - let's see how it all goes. Thanks to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] for giving me the idea and to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] for the name!
2) I have my first Beginner's French class tomorrow, 10-12, paid for by work. I'm looking forward to using my brain's language centres again - it's been a while!
3) New glasses. I had the eye test Saturday and spent the rest of the day going "ow" a lot as the pupil dilation test always plays havoc with my eyes for ages afterwards. Everything was all clear, barring a slight deterioration in my left eye. The poll is going nicely and I'll drop by the place and see what I need to do re ordering a new pair of glasses that I won't be embarrassed to wear in public.
4) Gym tonight. Okay, not exactly a new thing, but I'm hoping to get back into regular exercise this month now that my motivation seems to have returned from Siberia or whereever else it happened to go. I also need to scope out the indoor pool front since swimming is my favourite and most effective form of exercise for losing weight/toning up.
5) Dry period. As usual, after the holidays, I like to cut back on the drinking for a while to let myself detox. After this past weekend, it's definitely time to knock it down a bit! St. Patrick's Day is the usual end date, for obvious reasons.
I also have some outstanding beta-type stuff to do, so I'll take advantage of what's been a very productive morning (got a motion served adn filed, in the middle of dealing with an adjournment of a matter on Wednesday, whee for telephone tennis!) to try and wrap my brain around them. I've discovered that going without caffiene over the weekend makes me all dull and sleepy, which means not so much in the way of productivity!
