Ah, the eternal LJ dilemma, that of trying to sum up a week's worth of fun in one post without boring everyone silly. So I'm going for the "edited highlights" version. ;)

* I met Dia and Dyce. And they were Of The Nifty. And yea, there was much laughing and talking and making of jokes about those strange American people. And more talking. And much more laughing. My smile muscles are tired.

* Brisbane is the kind of place where it seems impossible to stress overmuch. Too hot and sticky, for one thing. This little Southerner found it very draining at first, kinda like being in a sauna in your clothes. But it didn't stop me from enjoying it. Brisbane's a very attractive city, very green, and filled with the smell of frangipani.

* Mel's family have the knack of making you feel at ease by simple virtue of treating you just like any member of the family. Mel's oldest brother teased me about my "granny shirt", and I had a hilarious conversation with her youngest brother about hair removal products. And I watched part of Coyote Ugly with her sister, who had leased her bed to me. *grins*

* I suck at accents. Horribly. But it doesn't mean I didn't have fun being a German gay hairdresser at the "How To Host A Murder" Party Mel's friend Anna had on New Year's Eve. Amanda as a dodgy used car salesman, Mel a light-fingered sultry cleaning lady, and Dia as a Bill Gates' comtemporary hacker. And Mel's brother as a well-endowed waitress. Oh, those legs.

* Air conditioning is Of The Strong. As are paddling pools. Especially when combined with White Russians, although I think I didn't drink enough as I could still feel the mosquitoes partaking of my not-usual blood.

* Monsters Inc. was just adorable. Especially the little kid, who Mel realised looks just like a Lil' Chibi Lise.

* It is possible to talk for six or seven hours straight. Without pause.

* Dyce is the tallest of the Aussies. This being so, her reaction upon hugging me hello for the first time was "Little Rossi!". I may never live that one down. ;)

* Dia and I apparently had a kicking match in our sleep (*grins* Another Aussie I have slept with - I'm such a slut), but me being completely wiped, I didn't feel a thing.

* LotR was well worth the wait. And I shall do my burbling in a separate post, since it deserves that much of my attention.

* There's nothing so good about a homecoming as finding a stack of mail - and none of it bills. On top of cards from [livejournal.com profile] fionny, [livejournal.com profile] icewing00 and [livejournal.com profile] kielle&[livejournal.com profile] laersyn, there was a CD from [livejournal.com profile] iamgerg and [livejournal.com profile] dexfarkin (with some very scary 80s stuff on it that may put me in therapy *grins*), and a Christmas prezzie from the much Esteemed [livejournal.com profile] farli. Which had another addition to my lizard collection, a nifty metal lizard with an amusing bouncy tail, and a TPB of Terry Pratchett's Guards Guards.

* As a result of this, I did a most immature whoop and dance around my lounge room at 9.30pm, after travelling for something like six hours from one end of the country to the other and then back up a bit. My FarliChilde is most wonderful, and I must think of something to do for her in return.

* No, Dia, I'm not in denial about writing smut. I'm just trying to get out of my habit of degenerating into dick jokes.

* Long train trips are great for writing. I finished my new TCP series on the way home and posted it today - check out OTL or the Southern Stars list.

* Issue 9 of Midnight Nation still hasn't reached our shores. This is most displeasing. I shall have Words with my Comic Store Guy soon.

* Amanda is, as always, a frightening combination of sweetness and Eee-ville. And she's coming to my house. *grins*

* While I don't strictly believe in fortune-telling, it was very amusing (and a tad disconcerting) to hear the old lady in the tea shop who read my cards tell me BRM was immature and needed a lot of growing up. And that Mel and I both had travelling ahead of us. Just as well, considering our plans for this year. ;) I'm still not sure about the "meeting someone out of the blue and getting married quickly" part, tho'.

* Mel and I seem the be the only ones who can see Mel in Union Jack Doc Martens. And should I ever have an unexpected windfall, I am buying her a pair.

And finally...

* Getting together with the Aussie ficcers gives me such a feeling of peace and happiness and contentment. I wish I could bottle it and save it up for the times when I need it. But that won't be for a while, I'm thinking. I have this feeling of... release. Like I've put down something heavy I've been carrying for a long time.
