Small joys

deathpixie: (vegemite toast)
[personal profile] deathpixie
I'm eating a bagel with vegemite for breakfast and it's wonderful. It's been a while since I've indulged in the black tarry goo of nomminess, not because I haven't had supplies (I have about 12 tubes of the stuff from various care packages, DO NOT SEND ME ANY MORE VEGEMITE, I BEG YOU!!!) but because toast hasn't been that much of a feature in the past few years, due to me not cycling to work any more. Considering how tasty that bagel was (since it's all gone now), this might need to be something I amend. I can easily buy a bag of bagels and a tub of margarine for work breakfast.

I also have home made clam chowder and asiago and black pepper bread for lunch. Definitely an improvement on yesterday's food scramble.

Other things that make me happy:

1) Demented Kitty Hat. I still need to get a pic of this, but my friend Greg gave me the most awesomely insane hat at our Christmas party on the 18th. It truly needs to be seen to be believed, but I love it.

2) My "Meats Don't Clash" shirt from Mon. Travis Snider is a Jays player who did a nacho tour of Toronto. Upon finding one example with both chicken and beef, his companion expressed concern. Travis' reply? "Meats don't clash!" And now I have it on a t-shirt in Blue Jay blue. :)

3) A free California roll from my sushi place yesterday. Work was hellish, I didn't get lunch until 2:50 p.m., and I ordered seafood udon in order to soothe my sore throat. While I was waiting, a free California roll appeared in front of me and made my day so much better. <3

4) Kitty hot water bottles. On cold nights the cats have been snuggling up to me, with Angel having an unerring instinct for exactly curling up against the place on my back that's achey. There's something ineffably comforting about having a warm living weight against you, especially if it's purring.

5) L. at the court in Guelph. She managed to help me out with the judge's order that's been making my life hell since December 23rd.

6) The five hour long conversation I struck up a couple of weeks ago with a PhD student at the bar, covering everything from American politics to folk music. Yes, I emailed him, although I haven't heard back - he did say he was going to be out of town for three weeks. However, it didn't feel like a pick up attempt, just finding someone interesting to talk to who was interested in what I had to say as well.

Things I need to do in order to avoid being a mopey mcmoperston - use the roomie's exercise bike more often; don't spend entire days inside; eat regularly and properly, work be buggered.
