And then you climb the hill and for a moment you're suspended weightless and you see the tired blinking lights of the town spread before you, except here without gravity's touch or time's harshness the lights are emboldened, blazing like the last outpost against the eternal dark - blazing in such a way as to illuminate the lives of the people who came to this spot and who made this a place for their families and all those who would find common ground and purpose in the construction of this city. Just before gravity tugs at you and reminds you where you are, you look out at the horizon, lit gold from below and silver from above, and you know that when you were younger you knew the exact right words to keep going, out beyond the horizon to places unseen, and directions unknown - second star to the right, and straight on till morning....
