This one is an image from the Midnight Nation comic, made for me by my friend
icewing. At the time, I was in the process of rebuilding my life after a relationship breakdown and this was very much a "take hope and keep going" sort of gift. I still use it because hey, still in transition here, although a lot less broken then I used to be.
I tend to describe my job as being "the grease in the wheels of justice" (I'm a legal assistant for the government, formerly a court clerk). This one pretty much sums up my working life.
Ah, Morbo. He's a Futurama character, the typical "we will crush you puny humans underfoot!" type of alien, however he never seems to get around to it. Instead, he's a co-anchor for the news. It's very much my "I hate people so much" icon, usually used in conjunction with some kind of post on politics. Or when I'm having a bad day online.
The quote comes from Mythbusters and amuses me. I tend to use this icon for "when Rossi is being zany", or for when I'm stating an opinion that is strictly my own.
erindubitably makes beautiful icons. I call this one "Storms Ahead" and tend to use it for when I'm feeling down or things are going badly. It's kind of an early warning system for impending depression.
Emily the Strange. I love Emily. She's so snarky and sarcastic and yet loves cats. ;) One of my default "I'm talking fandom things" icons.

Dr. Horrible from Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Look at that face - doesn't it say "someone was mean to me!"? I tend to use it for my 'meep' icon, the one where I'm kind of expecting stompage of some kind. Or when I'm overwhelmed and not sure what to say.
Tour de France.
gerg made this one for me. It was during the height of the Lance Armstrong years for the Tour. The Green Jersey is awarded for the best sprinter over all, and that year it was Robbie McEwan, an Aussie. The Yellow Jersey is the overall winner, and I believe the image is one of the Aussie riders, possibly Cadel Evans. The "last year doesn't mean anything" was pretty much my rallying cry every year for the Tour - one year one of my Aussie boys would win it! And this year, one of them did. :)
My "I'm feeling blue but not fully depressed" icon. Kind of the "meh" feeling you get on grey days sometimes.
Icon made from one of
alasdair's photos. I call it "drug of the nation" from the song line: "Television, the drug of the nation..." I use it for computer-y type things, as well as my political stuff sometimes.
The Ninth Doctor will always be my favourite - Christopher Eccleston was brilliant at the way he portrayed someone who was completely broken and yet still able to be fixed. And I love the expression on his face in this one. It's my "wackiness ahead!" icon.
This one comes from a Neil Gaiman quote and pretty much sums up my online life. ;)
Another one from
erindubitably I adore the colours in this icon, the way you can see every twig on the branch because of the light. I've always loved sunsets - I used to watch them a lot when I was a teen. This is one of my 'calm' icons, one I use simply because it's beautiful.

This one's a still from He Died With A Falafel in His Hand, one of my favourite movies. I would have gone with the sliding the food under the door scene, but screen caps of the movie are hard to find. For context, she's just said "I have heard about this secret weapon of yours, to make us women go, how you say, ga-ga?" and that's Noah's reaction. Random icon is randomly used.
Another icon from
erindubitably. I call it "gap in the clouds" and I tend to use it when I'm trying to seethe silver lining, or when I'm trying to be supporive. All may be dark, but the sun still sneaks through.
I think this is another
erindubitably icon. I tend to identify myself as a traveller and this icon encompasses the good and the bad of that. Good in that you have roads that can take you just about anywhere. Bad because sometimes it's pretty lonely out there.
Random Scrabble icon. For a while I was playing Scrabble with a group downtown, until they got a bit weird on me. I still like Scrabble, tho'. I tend to use this for "I have a brain!" type posts, too.
Something
indiana_j made during an icon-making project. It tends to be a therapy icon, or a 'talking about the past' icon, which, really therapy tends to be.
Sushi. My favouritest food ever! Also used for general 'talking about food' posts.
I can't remember where I grabbed this icon from, one of the icon-making sites, I think, but it amused me. My "favourite band" tends to change a lot, so rather than an icon about a specific band, I use this one to talk about music and bands and stuff in general.

Answered for Frito: "Icon made from one of

This is Manny, a character from the series Black Books, played by Bill Bailey who is a very funny man.
_bounce_ had this one on her LJ that I snaffled, since I really liked the image. The sticker originally read "Manny?", but Bounce 'Shopped in the "Is is real?" bit. I use it for basically "What the hell is this?" type situations, where my boggle meter is overwhelmed.
I'm not sure why, but "One day I'll fly away" seems to be a personal motto of sorts. Partly the travel thing, but partly the need to be free sometimes, especially when things are especially heavy.
Yet another
erindubitably icon. I call it "crossed wires" and tend to use it in journal conversations where it's not entirely clear what's going on, or to express confusion.

Negative face. This is my frustrated, angry, upset icon, made by
indiana_j. Like the "Storms Ahead" one, it's a forewarning of a Bad Day.

I say this to myself every day.
*grins* Drop bears are an Australian institution, a bit like snipe hunts. And I'm known for being able to tell the story well enough to get people to believe in carnivorous koalas who drop down from trees and eat your face. The guy is Paul McDermott, an Australian comedian, who usually wears suits - the image of him in an Aussie flag t-shirt is just really odd. Used when I'm being particularly Australian at people.
indiana_j made this one for me. I love the colouring and the whole idea that we never know what's around the corner or at the end of the street, waiting for us. One of my "writing/inspired to write" type icons.
Weirdly enough, I like snow. It brings out the five year old in me and I quite often will go out and play in it.
Several years ago, my friend Johnny gave me a guitar for Christmas and started teaching me to play. I've let it drop, mostly due to the depression getting in the way, but Tara is still under my bed, waiting for me, and one day I'll reintroduce myself.
*grins* The Simpsons have a quote for everything. I think we can guess when this one comes out.
A kind of therapy in-joke with a few friends - I was talking to Jen about how sometimes you need to counter all those random paranoid thoughts, the ones where the little voice is telling you no-one likes you and you suck, you need to counter those with a good hard dose of realism. A beating with the mallet of logic, if you will. And thus an icon was born. I tend to use it either when I need malleting, or when someone else is asking for it. Malleting is always done gently and with love - I'm not a "tough love" sort of person.

Heh. That's actually me, at the Yellow Griffin pub one Christmas. I have a rather nifty Santa hat I "acquired" from a visiting Santa Crawl one year, and I think it looks cute.
(this is about four years old now - my hair's a lot longer these days!)

[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] hates this icon. ;) Moe from The Simpsons, being depressed. It's my "I'm going to die alone and be eaten by cats" icon.
:D
*grins* The Phoenix Saga was one of the first X-Men books I read and I was captivated by the characters of Jean and the Phoenix. This one alternates as my comic geek icon, or as my "righteous fury" icon.
At one point, I had actually left XP for various reasons. Dex and Frito came up with the whole X-Force concept, and Dex talked to me about potentially coming back with Amanda as part of it. One of the players who had Issues with me coming back started telling people that I had gotten Dex drunk in order to do my evil bidding. Anyone who actually knows either of us knows what a laugh that is; hence the icon. It's my "do my evil bidding" type icon, which works as about as effectively as you'd imagine. ;)
Another XP in joke. Jen and I were talking about a former player who had been particularly passive-aggressive and I might have mentioned my "stab him with a spoon" threat. Jen then protested that would get passive-aggressive all over the rest of the cutlery, and then we'd have passive-aggressive forks and... well, I guess you had to be there. ;) It tends to be one of my random icons, plus the one I use for those obscure posts you make when you're fed up.
Wow, you picked my mopey ones. Yeah, this one is pretty self-explanatory. I tend to use it whenever I'm talking about dating/relationships/love/etc.

One of my few Buffy icons. I love the image and the sentiment, and contrasting with the mopey icons, this is one of my strong ones, one of the ones I use to either push myself or to try and reassure others with.
