Back to the coalface.
Feb. 25th, 2002 05:35 pmHad one of those work days were every person with a petty grievance decides to come into court and apply for an intervention order against everyone they know, including the bloke down the road who didn't say "good morning" one day. Talk about an abuse of process. And I love that ancient legal principle - "tit for tat". In other words, if your wife/girlfriend/defacto gets an order against you after you beat the crap out of her, you can come in and apply for one of your own, with nothing more than a "she nags me" as your complaint. Or at least, you will try, only to be told by one of us long-suffering court staff that you don't actually satisfy the legislative criteria. At which point you will make up an incident where she chased you around the house with a foot-long machete, screaming abuse and heaping invective.
*rolls eyes* And people wonder why I'm so cynical about this job?
Any way, today wasn't too bad, aside from various nuffies and their above-mentioned lame intervention order claims and body odours. Didn't get to swim, as the pool was once again full of a school swimming carnival, but there's always tomorrow. And I got various things I needed to do done, leaving me time tomorrow to photocopy old court lists for the magistrate in charge of the region when she comes on Thursday. She wants to see just how busy we are, after John Hardy's horror stories. Possibly with an aim towards another magistrate, or at least another court day, to deal with the load. And considering we're getting nine new police at the station when the new complex opens in April, we're going to need it.
Oh, interesting (and highly depressing) tidbit from our own magistrate, Mr Hardy - apparently he was speaking to the CEO of the Department in Melbourne about staffing levels for the new court, and Pat admitted that there was no way three staff could run the place... but he's not giving us any new staff any way. Something to bring up at my stress-related Workcover claim. *sighs* I love working for the government.
Five more months and I'm tossing it in. People keep asking me if I'm coming back to Wodonga after my trip - my reply is that I'm not sure yet. But I've made up my mind. Not only am I going to not come back to Wodonga, I'm not coming back to the courts. They can find another monkey to pay peanuts and throw shit at. Even a position as a legal secretary would be better than this.

Good news - BRM is, at this very moment, at the doctors, AFAIK. He was asking where the clinic was this morning, and he's not back from school yet, so I'm taking a guess and putting two and two together. We've agreed on May as the deadline for his moving out - and he's accepted that yes, he does need to move out - and he's looking for somewhere between now and then, so it could be sooner. I know I was ready to throw him out bodily a month ago, but financially this works. And if he's getting his medication looked at and some kind of help arranged, it'll be easier to live with him. It's been better the last few weeks any way, or at least to a point I can bear it.
Sometimes practical issues get in the way of what we want and we have to make compromises. This is one I can live with, and you won't hear a peep of complaint from me about it - it's my decision and I'll live with it.

Date: 2002-02-25 04:35 pm (UTC)I hate those 'revenge' orders. We get them all the time too. And unfortunately, some of the judges grant them. Grrr.
And kick ass on BRM. I'm SO glad there's an end in sight for you. :)
love n' light,
Heatherly
