deathpixie: (bright sunshiny day)
Amazing what an extra half-hour of snoozing can do for you, especially when you got to bed late...

It's a beautiful day out there today. Warm - around 1 or 2 degrees - sunny and fresh. Of course, the snow is melting into gross slushy puddles of ice and cigarette butts, but that's the downside of snow. And you know you're beginning to adapt to Canada when 1 or 2 degrees C is "warm". It is, tho' - I didn't bother buttoning my coat and left the scarf at home today.

Sun is good. Sun brightens your mood, wakes you up, makes you a little happier with the world. As does having pancakes for dinner at a friend's place, and listening to Johnny and the boys over a couple of pints and resolving personal insanity. I got into work a half-hour later than usual, but given Jane's on vacation and Alvin doesn't get in until 10:30/11:00 usually, it's not a problem - I'll just stay an extra half-hour tonight.

I'm settling into the modding thing, after some teething troubles. We're apparently having one of the busiest months ever mod-wise, which is good for the game and for us to learn, although occasionally I cling to the "to-do" list frantically. ;) Lists are Of The Strong.

My little brother turned 35 over the weekend. I missed it due to being in London, but there were birthday wishes being sent telepathically.

Speaking of birthdays... I've decided for mine I want a combined three-way birthday party: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has hers in April, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has hers May 9 and mine's May 10. There needs to be dressing up and going somewhere nice and wearing tiaras. Because, dammit, if I'm going to continue this inexorable creep towards 40, I want to do it in style. Or as stylish as you can get with a plastic tiara on your head. ;) Consider this my decree: I Have Spoken.

For those who keep asking/wanting to confirm, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] shall be held on the weekend of AUGUST 3 - 6, 2007. The official announcement will be made at some point, but that's the date [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] gave me (among other people) and that's what I'm sticking to. So if you're the people that need to start planning now due to extreme overseasness, there you go.

I have a pile of filing the size of a small pigmy. *sighs dramatically*

Back at work again and it's quiet so far. And yes, 5am is still an ungodly time to get up. Not just mildly irreligious, it's downright sacreligious. Blasphemous, even.

But, on Saturday I went and saw Batman Begins with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. And I have to say, it was probably one of the best comic book adaptations I've seen... well, ever. Mind you, we're still waiting on Sin City down here. "Coming Soon" my butt...

But I digress... )

So, yeah, good movie. Go and see it. :) Mr and Mrs Smith is on at the George, so I'll go see that next set of days off. Getting out of the house, even if it's to go sit in a theatre for a bit? Is actually doing me good.

On a work-type note... this building is freezing. Not as cold as it was yesterday when I couldn't stop shivering for the first three hours of my shift and my fingers weren't working on the keyboard, but still. Cold. It's 4 degrees C out there and I'm waiting for my ears to thaw out after the ride in. Definitely a morning for the double layer og cycling gloves.

Off to see Batman Begins today with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. And since it's a nice day out there I might wander down early and just... wander. Find somewhere in the sun and have a coffee and write some more and generally do the Melbourne thing. ;)

Work again tomorrow. Shifts for this week are as follows:

Sunday-Monday: 6am-4pm. I'm hopefully getting out a bit earlier tomorrow so I can catch WPA at the charity footy game.

Tuesday-Wednesday: 5pm-6am.

Thursday-Sunday: Off.

Since I'm working I'll probably keep the AIM off until Thursday, since I can't use it from work any way and nightshift tends to kill me.

Hmm.

I spent most of the afternoon down at the Banff, first for lunch and then reading the book [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] got me as a late birthday/just because giftie. Wrapt in Crystal by Sharon Shinn, btw. Pretty good - a detective novel in a sci fi-type setting. With some interesting concepts. And then I did some writing - a Buffy fanfic I started probably a couple of years ago, a sort of AU dealing with Tara post-Glory. In all, I spent about four hours there. The owners didn't mind - I'd eaten a meal, paide for two coffees and a juice, and tucked away in a corner I was largely forgotten about. It was nice; my corner was sunny and I could look out onto the street, my pizza was yummy and the coffee nice and strong. *grins* I think I'm going to become a regular down there.

Tomorrow, hopefully, I'm meeting [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and maybe [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] down at the Village Cinema in the city to see Batman Begins at 1:30pm. Depends if people read their email tonight. *hmms* Think I'll SMS them both as well, just to be sure.

I was considering going down to the St Kilda Inn for a little while for happy hour, only that could be a bad idea, I think. I'm sort of blah - dissatisfied, a bit grouchy, and that's never a good combination with alcohol. Tends to end in tears and depressed LJ posts. Staying home isn't a lot better, but I can always go back to that story of mine.

Or hey, I could wander down to the video place, finally join up and rent a bunch of 80s movies. I'm feeling rather John Hughes-ish today. Or possibly high school-ish. *wry grin* Same thing, for me. ;)
